MANILA, Philippines – Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Soliman assured Filipinos Wednesday that the country is on track to meet the targets set forth in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) before the 2015 deadline through its conditional cash transfer (CCT) scheme called Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). Soliman was the Philippine representative to the High-Level Meeting on Cooperation for Child Rights in the Asia Pacific Region in Beijing, China recently where she facilitated the session on child protection and reported the country’s midterm progress on the MDGs. |

MANILA, Philippines—An international expert on Monday said effective implementation of the conditional cash transfer program is critical to addressing extreme hunger and poverty suffered by 4 million Filipino families.
In a news release, Tarcisio Castaneda, an expert on social protection and international adviser on poverty, said CCT (now known as 4Ps) empowers extremely poor families to seek access to the government’s health and education services, which in the long run can lift them up from abject poverty.
