Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino (4Ps) annually conducts the Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya with the goal to recognize outstanding or model family beneficiaries who maintain strong family ties and demonstrate positive Filipino values amidsts being a member of the marginalized sector. It aims to identify and recognize the efforts and selfless initiatives of the families to their community to uplift not only their lives but also other members of their community.

From 2012 to 2018, here are the Huwarang Pamilya national winners:

2018 | Dionisio Family (Labo, Camarines Norte)
Less than a year after winning the Search, the Dionisios was given a lot of good opportunities to serve their Kabihug tribesmen and to communicate their advocacies. Marites, the mother, became a tribal affairs assistant in National Commission on Indigenous Peoples - Camarines Sur. The Dionisios also felt that people were more trusting of them since they were awarded. The family also experienced being invited in various activities to share their success story and their advocacy of promoting IP rights.

2016 | Garay Family (Jagna, Bohol)
Two years after receiving the Huwaran award, the Garays found themselves loving and treasuring each other even more. They also received new opportunities to serve their community and to augment their household income. Marissa, for one, became a purok kagawad and became busy with various community affairs. After winning the Search, their family was often visited by other members of their community to seek (family) advice.

2017 | Cabualan Family (Leon, Iloilo)

The Cabualans proved that positive changes are possible for poor families like them thus defying the stereotypes and prejudices people had about them being rebel returnees. Instead of fixating about their past, people now focused on the family’s contribution to the community and the other things they achieved—having college graduates within their household, holding important positions in their barangay, and building a concrete house.

2015 | Achuela Family (Paoay, Ilocos Norte )
For the Achuela Family, becoming the grand winner of the Search felt like a badge being worn all the time proving that they are an exemplary family. Hence they felt happy and pressured at the same time. The Achuelas attended several local and national events (including Pantawid Pamilya’s Search for Modelong Ama) that allowed them to share their story, hoping that it would give other family beneficiaries an inspiration they needed to press on despite the challenges in life.

2014 | Tanutan Family (Lemery, Iloilo)
Winning the Search made the Tanutans a true model family especially in their community where they proved that hard work and putting government aid into good use could lead to positive changes. Media interviews and invitations to become guest speakers in and out of their city poured in. Gemma, the mother, would always mention the support of the program on the health and education aspects of her children especially that she raised them single-handedly.

2013 | Mabanta Family (Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte)
The Search, for the Mabantas, was an unexpected blessing. Their cash prize was mainly used for the board exam review of their second child. The Mabantas also enjoyed learning from the training and seminars they attended, which would not had been possible had they not won the Search. For the family, the Search became an instrument to show that poverty could be an inspiration to help the community, join various activities, and learn new things as long as people learn to grab the opportunities given to them.

2012 | Manarpaac Family (Batac, Ilocos Norte)
Becoming the first winner of the Search made the Manarpaac family believe that poor families like them can also become role models in their communities through their own little ways. They had been invited to various activities, like city hall flag raising and DSWD regional meetings and events where they got to share their family’s story. The family is grateful that through the Search, they had a venue to communicate their stories as 4Ps beneficiaries and disprove the public’s impression that they are only dependent on the government aid.
