In response to the needs of families affected by Super Typhoon Uwan, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Philippines provided emergency cash assistance to Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in selected municipalities of Catanduanes on November 29.
Each identified 4Ps household received Php 5,287 under the Emergency Cash Transfer program of the UNICEF, aimed at providing immediate relief to those impacted by the recent typhoon.
“Through this emergency cash assistance, we hope to provide immediate relief to our 4Ps families in Catanduanes who have been affected by Typhoon Uwan. Our priority is to ensure that vulnerable families can access critical support quickly, helping them recover and rebuild their lives,” 4Ps National Program Manager and Director Gemma B. Gabuya said.
The cash aid from UNICEF was received by more than 5,700 affected families from the municipalities of Virac, Baras, Bato, Panganiban, and San Andres through their LandBank cash
card.
UNICEF and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have a long–standing collaboration in the distribution of emergency cash transfers, which allows for more accurate targeting of affected families and faster distribution of aid.
“By leveraging 4Ps‘ existing database of vulnerable households, this approach ensures that assistance reaches those who need it most in a timely and efficient manner. This also allows them to buy essential items such as food and medicine during disasters,” Director Gabuya added.
The DSWD, through its partnership with UNICEF, ensures that the affected 4Ps households are given timely aid as they cope with the effects of Super Typhoon Uwan. #
