“This is my first time to become a leader!” says Isinea Yap, 36, and a mother of 6 children. She’s one of the 4Ps beneficiaries in Sitio Luuk Bangha, a Badjao Community. Isinea said she is happy and proud of being a parent-leader because she is able to help her members who are all 4Ps beneficiaries like her. She considers as an accomplishment that the old practices of the mothers has changed through her influence and encouragement.
“Before, Badjao members are afraid to go to health centers to have their children vaccinated and pregnant women are reluctant about getting regular check-ups because they fear that they will be ignored”, Isinea narrates the negative impression that most Badjaos has about government services. “At first, I accompany them but later on, they go on their own for check up along with their children”, she proudly added. In the educational aspect, Isinea also shared that most parents were content that they enrolled their children but did not monitor their attendance and progress in school.
But because of 4Ps, they are now enthusiastic in making sure that their children go to school regularly with all the necessities like slippers, bag, uniform etc.
