Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental -- "A lot of good could be accomplished in this world if nobody cared who gets the credit" is one of the many proverbs that embody lofty ideals. These words shall be made true as more than twenty student leaders of Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) expressed their desire to be part of the ongoing convergence in assisting the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries of Negros Oriental. 4Ps conducted an orientation to 24 student leaders coming from different courses and sectors of the University which includes the editorial staff of the school paper, student council and office of the Student Affairs in the person on Director William Aranas and Mr. Jake Makahig. The student leaders saw the program as a source of hope to the thousands of impoverished youths. Their innate desire to serve is strengthened upon learning that there exist a government program that invest on young people to ascertain a better tomorrow for them. The idealism and energy of the youth were tapped during the orientation. It is one of the ways to insure the sustainability of the program’s objectives on education and health. The scientific way by which the beneficiaries were targeted and identified garnered a thumbs-up from the student leaders. The student leaders plan to focus their outreach activities this academic year to the 4Ps beneficiaries in Negros Oriental. Some of the outreach activities of the different school organizations include feeding program, reading programs and adopt-a-barangay during Christmas. Through their outreach activities, they hope to reinforce the objectives of 4Ps and in the long run, be able to make a significant dent in helping almost 30,000 4Ps households in Negros Oriental cross the poverty threshold. “Knowing that this project of the government exists and to have a chance to be part of it help today’s youth in being conscious of their environment. It also helps in properly channeling their resources towards the right direction which would eventually contribute in making them better persons.” Said Dir. Aranas. ###(4Ps Social Marketing Unit) |
