The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently won the MY World Outreach Award for Asia-Pacific and Oceania in recognition of its outstanding efforts in the promotion of MY World by letting the voices of the poorest of the poor conditional cash transfer beneficiaries be heard. The Award was given during the MY World Partner Recognition Awards Ceremony held in New York, United States of America, organized by the United Nations (UN) Millennium Campaign, UN Foundation, UN Volunteers Programme, and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The event was attended by the representatives of UN Member States present at the UN General Assembly, members of the press and media, civil society representatives, and representatives of the corporate sector.
The MY World Outreach Award for Asia-Pacific and Oceania is one of the 10 awards given at the MY World Partner Recognition Awards. The awards are in the following categories: volunteerism, innovation, outreach in Africa, Asia-Pacific and Oceania, Arab States, Latin America and Caribbean, and Europe and North America, communications, outstanding contribution, and People’s Choice.
The Conditional Cash Transfer Program dubbed Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), which is being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development is a human development program of the Philippine national government patterned after programs implemented in other developing countries. It provides educational and health cash grants of as much as P1,400 a month to a family with three qualified children. The Pantawid Pamilya helps to fulfill the country’s commitment to meet the Millennium Development Goals of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality, reducing child mortality, and improving maternal health.
MY World is a global survey conducted by the UN. Working with its partners, MY World aims to capture people’s voices, priorities, and views, so world leaders can be informed. The DSWD helped the UN conduct their surveys during Family Development Sessions (FDS) with Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries hence, allowing their concerns and desires be heard.
